Abrupt Onset of Second Energy Gap at Superconducting Transition of Underdoped Bi2212

چکیده
The superconducting gap–an energy scale tied to the superconducting phenomena-opens on the Fermi surface at the superconducting transition temperature (T C) in conventional BCS superconductors. Quite differently, in underdoped high-T C superconducting cuprates, a pseudogap, whose relation to the superconducting gap remains a mystery, develops well above T C 1,2. Whether the pseudogap is a distinct phenomenon or the incoherent continuation of the superconducting gap above T C is one of the central questions in high-T C research 3-8. While some experimental evidence suggests they are distinct 9-18 , this issue is still under intense debate. A crucial piece of evidence to firmly establish this two-gap picture is still missing: a direct and unambiguous observation of a single-particle gap tied to the superconducting transition as function of temperature. Here we report the discovery of such an energy

Single-particle density of states of a superconductor with a spatially varying gap and phase fluctuations
Recent experiments have shown that the superconducting energy gap in some cuprates is spatially inhomogeneous. Motivated by these experiments, and using exact diagonalization of a model d-wave Hamiltonian, combined with Monte Carlo simulations of a Ginzburg-Landau free energy functional, we have calculated the single-particle local density of states LDOS ,r of a model high-Tc superconductor as ...
متن کاملDistinct Fermi-momentum-dependent energy gaps in deeply underdoped Bi2212.
We used angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy applied to deeply underdoped cuprate superconductors Bi2Sr2Ca(1-x)YxCu2O8 (Bi2212) to reveal the presence of two distinct energy gaps exhibiting different doping dependence. One gap, associated with the antinodal region where no coherent peak is observed, increased with underdoping, a behavior known for more than a decade and considered as the g...

Understanding of the puzzling phenomenon of high temperature superconductivity requires reliable spectroscopic information about temperature dependence of the bulk electronic density of states. Here I present a comprehensive analysis of T−evolution of bulk electronic spectra in Bi-2212 obtained by Intrinsic Tunneling Spectroscopy on small mesa structures. Unambiguous spectroscopic information i...

We have performed a systematic doping-dependent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) of Pb-substituted Bi2201 (Bi1.80Pb0.38Sr2.01CuO62d) with high energy (7±11 meV) and momentum (0.01 AÊ ) resolutions. We found that all the samples show a large hole-like Fermi surface centered at (p,p), whose volume changes systematically as a function of doping. The superconducting gap exhibits a ...
متن کاملDoping dependence of low-energy quasiparticle excitations in superconducting Bi2212
: The doping-dependent evolution of the d-wave superconducting state is studied from the perspective of the angle-resolved photoemission spectra of a high-Tc cuprate, Bi2Sr2CaCu2 O8+δ (Bi2212). The anisotropic evolution of the energy gap for Bogoliubov quasiparticles is parametrized by critical temperature and superfluid density. The renormalization of nodal quasiparticles is evaluated in terms...
